Functional & Major Changes

Compare mode

• Tick “Compare” for 2 to 4 furs (on cards or in the popup) and open a side-by-side table with every detail.
• “Show only differences” hides the rows that match, and you can copy a link to share the comparison.

Palette upgrades

• Share your palette with “Copy link” or “Share”. The link opens on a palette page that works on any device, with an “Add to my palette” button.
• “Add to palette” is now in the popup, so furs found through Similar Colors work too.
• In a multi-color fur’s popup, click one wedge to add only that color.
• Each palette color’s name links to its fur page. Text exports include the links.

Individual fur pages

• Every fur now has its own page (eg. /fur/red-gorilla/) that you can bookmark and share, with all the details, vendor buttons and a “Similar colors” section of up to 48 furs.

Search

• Search ignores punctuation, accents and apostrophes.
• Type a hex code (#eb2f23, eb2f23 or #e23) to see every fur ordered by closest color match.
• Pile lengths are searchable as fractions and ranges, like 1 1/2-2″.

Sorting & paging

• New “Newest first” sort.
• New “Per page” option (20, 40 or 60).
• Your search, filters, sliders, sort and page are saved in the web address, so Back returns to the same results and filtered views can be shared.

Similar colors

• In a multi-color fur’s popup, click a wedge to see matches for just that color. Click it again to go back to all colors.

Secondary vendors

• Furs sold by more than one retailer now show up when you filter or search by any of those vendors or ship-from locations, not just the first! (This was a big mistake lol)

More Vendors

• Added Fabric LA, New Fabrics Daily and Fake Fur Shop.
• Multi-colors and unique fur types were added for Bartfeld, Big Z, Cali Quilt Co, CanFur, CR Crafts, Fabric Empire, Fabricville, FurAddiction, Howl’s, Mendel’s and MofuMofu.

Color data

• Color logic was updated again. Single-color furs may now have 2 to 3 hex codes due to highlights and shadows.

UI/UX

• The card name now opens the popup. “View full page” opens in a new tab.
• The popup tucks certain specs under the “More Info” toggle, so Similar Colors is easier to reach.
• The bottom bar now has Palette and Compare tabs.
• Width now switches between inches and centimeters.
• Filter Buttons are now fixed in place.
• The card grid now goes above 4 columns.
• Increased Accessibility.
• Inches show as fractions and millimeters are rounded.
• Added a “Report an error” link with the fur’s name and ID pre-filled, in the popup, on fur pages and in the filter bar.

I’ve bee putting in some work the last few weeks, and this thing is getting pretty nifty now. Also, wow, my UI doesn’t want to make me vomit anymore.

Functional & Major Changes

Palette builder

• “Add to Palette” checkbox on each card feeds a sticky, scrollable bottom tray showing swatch + name + hex for each saved color.
• Export palettes as an image or as text.
• On multi-color furs, clicking a single pie wedge adds just that color, while “Add to Palette” grabs all colors at once.

Color matching & multi-tone furs

• Switched color-distance matching from redmean RGB to CIEDE2000 (Lab-space), which is much more perceptually accurate.
• Added support for two-tone (diagonal split swatches) and rainbow/multi-color furs (rendered as pie-wedge swatches).
• New Tones for new furs, Multi-Colored, Spotted, Striped, and Animal Print.

Multi-vendor support

• Same fur sold by multiple retailers now merges into a single card showing every seller and price, sorted by best deal.
• “Starting at $X” and price filtering convert all listings to USD-equivalent and use the cheapest, while displayed prices still follow the currency toggle.
• A fur group is only marked “discontinued” if every vendor for it is discontinued — otherwise dropped vendors just quietly disappear from “Available From” and filters.

Filtering logic

• Weight filtering simplified to Light/Medium/Heavy classes instead of exact gram values (old raw Weight (g) filter removed).
• Pile Length now supports selecting multiple ranges at once instead of just one.

Multi-currency

• Live conversion and auto-sync across USD/yd, CAD/m, EUR/m, AUD/m, GBP/yd, and GBP/m using the Frankfurter API.

More Vendors

• Added CosmicFur, eFutro, Gummyshark, Hopen, Linda Wholesale, and NeoTrims.

UI/UX

• Collapsible “How to Use” box, now including sections on the palette builder and multi-color furs
• ‘More Filters’ option, 7 filters have been moved to under this dropdown.
• Width filter is now a smooth slider.
• Renamed “Main Color Family” → “Main Color” and “Secondary Color Family” → “Secondary Colors”
• Added a red “x” to clear individual filters, and renamed “Clear Filters” to “Clear All Filters”
• Vendor link buttons are color-coded and show price + vendor name directly on the button
• Next/prev page buttons now scroll back to top of results
• Yd Width (in) changed to Width

Minor Polishes

• Pagination and result counts now operate on merged vendor groups rather than raw database rows
• Cards per page reduced from 60 to 20
• The number of furs found is the actual number of distinct furs, not just furs totals.

I finally added BigZ Flokati / Lion’s Mane (why was there no category for it on their site!?)

I’ve also improved the page loading speed, so the database should be noticeably faster to load and use.

More Filters & Sorting

There are now a few more ways to narrow things down:

• Sort/filter by shipping country
• Switch pile length between inches and mm
• Price options for USD, CAD, AUD, EUR and GBP
• Weight class – light, medium, and heavy

Color Updates

I tweaked the formulas used for determining color families and removed the White/Cream secondary family, which was causing some weird classifications with the Creamy/Soft tone family.

Things I’m Considering / Next Up

This is where I’d love some input from experienced makers and people who buy a lot of faux fur.

1. Ships From Filter

Would you rather I add the country alongside each vendor name, or keep the Ships From filter?

For example:

Fabricville – CAN

instead of having a separate shipping-country filter.

I’m leaning toward keeping the filter, but I’m curious what would actually be more useful when you’re trying to find fur.

2. Weight Classes

The current weight classes are pretty arbitrary, I made them up lol.

What weight ranges would actually make sense to you for Light / Medium / Heavy?

I’d especially love input from people who have bought a lot of different furs and have a good feel (pun intended) for what counts as light vs. medium vs. heavy.

3. New Vendors

Next on the list to add:

• Hopen Textile
• Gummyshark
• Mohair Bear Making Supplies
• CRS Fur Fabric

The whole point of this project is to make comparing faux furs easier, so community input is extremely helpful. If you notice incorrect information, have swatch pictures for a vendor/fur that isn’t represented yet, or know of a vendor I should add, please let me know!

This is the faux fur database v1 plugin, I posted the old version a while back but I was shadowbanned so that post is now gone. I’ve been working on this for a long time now. This tool was originally a personal project, meant to cut down on the time it took to research furs.

Main Features

• Search over 700 furs, using 13 different search filters from 7 US-based vendors.
• Search and sort by color, pile length, and fur type, among others characteristics.
• View similar colors. Click on a fur detail card and scroll down. View up to 12 similar colors based on an extracted hex along with each fur.

To Add/Change

• New vendors. I’m planning on adding
  • Canfur, MofuMofu, Linda Wholesale, Hopen, Gummyshark, MeiMeiFur, Bartfeld, FurAddiction, Fabric Ville, Carniv Creations, Mohair Bear, CRs Fur, Soffhummel
  • And Limey Fur + Foxy Fabrics when they drop (I’m SO excited for many of these colors)
• New search filters. Adding a ‘Ships From’ filter for vendors outside of the US, may add currency filters.
• I might add in a similar hex search feature.

I’ve been starting at this by myself for too long now, I’d love some opinions of what to add or change to make this easier to use for everyone!
